An Untouched Caribbean Paradise, Now Easier to Reach with New Nonstop Toronto–Tobago Service

Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) today announced the launch of new nonstop service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and A.N.R. Robinson International Airport (TAB), making the unspoiled Caribbean island known for its protected rainforest, uncrowded beaches and rich cultural heritage easier to reach than ever before for Canadian travellers.

Beginning Sunday, October 25th, Caribbean Airlines will operate the only nonstop service between Canada and Tobago, with weekly flights from Toronto. The new route offers Canadian travellers the most convenient way yet to reach the island, putting a Tobago escape within easy reach of Toronto.

A Milestone for Canadian Travellers

Until now, Canadian travellers heading to Tobago typically connected through Trinidad or another Caribbean hub. The new weekly service provides a direct option from Toronto, strengthening Tobago’s connection with one of its most important international markets.

“We wanted to create a direct route to paradise for Canadians, and that is exactly what this new service delivers,” said the Honourable Farley Augustine, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly. “Canada is an important market for Tobago, and from October 25, travellers can fly directly from Toronto and discover an island that still offers the Caribbean the way it used to be: unspoiled, welcoming, and full of character.”

A New Gateway

Tobago is also preparing to welcome travellers through a striking new terminal at A.N.R. Robinson International Airport, representing a major investment in the island’s tourism infrastructure and a new chapter for its international gateway.

Spanning 25,500 square metres over two storeys, the state-of-the-art terminal has been designed to international aviation standards and will feature self-service check-in technology, an advanced baggage handling system, passenger boarding bridges, nine departure gates, premium lounges, and expanded retail and dining facilities. With capacity to accommodate up to three million passengers annually, the new facility will provide Tobago with a modern international gateway designed to support increased airlift and long-term tourism growth.

“The introduction of nonstop service from Toronto represents an important step in strengthening Tobago’s accessibility and growing our presence in the Canadian market,” said Korice A.Q. Nancis, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited. “Having been part of the longstanding negotiations, I am particularly pleased to see this service finally come to fruition. For travellers, it makes choosing Tobago simpler. For the destination, it creates new opportunities to connect more Canadians with the experiences that distinguish our island; our warmth, natural heritage, culture and communities. Together with the development of the new international airport terminal, this new service reflects much-needed momentum in Tobago’s tourism sector, as well as our continued focus on sustainable international growth.”

A Different Kind of Caribbean Escape

Unlike many of the Caribbean’s larger resort destinations, Tobago has retained a strong sense of place and an easygoing rhythm all its own. Visitors can hike through the UNESCO-recognized Main Ridge Forest Reserve, established in 1776 and considered the oldest legally protected rainforest reserve in the world; swim in the famously clear, shallow waters of the Nylon Pool; snorkel Buccoo Reef; or discover an island renowned for its extraordinary diversity of birdlife, including its dazzling hummingbirds.

But Tobago’s appeal goes well beyond its natural beauty. Community tourism offers visitors a chance to experience the island through the people and places that define it, from villages where steelpan, music, and local traditions remain part of everyday life to a distinctive culinary scene shaped by Tobago’s rich mix of cultural influences. It is a Caribbean experience that feels deeply connected to place and refreshingly removed from the mainstream.
