How safe is Tobago?

Crime exists in Tobago, just like anywhere else in the world, however, it is at a minimum. We do strongly advise visitors to use common sense when traveling and exercise caution where need be. Just like anywhere else, never leave your valuables unattended, lock your doors and avoid flaunting expensive jewelry or large sums of cash. Avoid traveling alone at night, especially in poorly lit areas, deserted beaches or scenic lookouts.

If you are in doubt about an area in which you are staying or traveling get advice from the hotel staff or call your embassy. When using public transportation, especially from the airport to your destination, use an accredited taxi. You can ask for details on accreditation at the information booth at the airport.

Trust your instincts – if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. The Emergency Number 999 will reach the Police Rapid Response Unit. While 211 is a local hotline for emergencies and also to obtain contact information on any business or organization on the island.
